A man who had been missing for four years while out on bail was finally arrested and brought to face fresh charges of smashing up his father's car and threatening to kill him.

The unemployed 38-year-old, Etienne Scicluna, had moved to England four years ago and found work in Devon, Police Inspector Fabian Fleri said in court yesterday.

He had returned to Malta two years ago and failed to notify anyone about his return, only showing up on Sunday after his father turned him in for smashing up his car, the inspector added.

In fact, arguments between Mr Scicluna and his parents, Spiridione and Dolores, had been going on for the past year and it reached breaking point on Sunday when Mr Scicluna went home drunk and damaged his father's car.

In yesterday's separate arraignments, Mr Scicluna pleaded not guilty to breaching bail conditions, damaging his father's car, threatening his parents, threatening to kill his father, being drunk in public and disobeying orders.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano found Mr Scicluna guilty of breaching bail and jailed him for five months. However since he filed an immediate appeal he was released on the previous bail conditions.

Since he also pleaded not guilty to the other charges involving his parents, the magistrate remanded him in custody on those charges.
