Labour European Parliament elections candidate Miriam Dalli has called for coordinated action at European level to ensure that Malta is able to safeguard its gaming industry.

She made the comment when she called at the offices of gaming company Betsson and the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, which is the regulator.

Dr Dalli said this sector accounts for 11 per cent of the Maltese economy.

She said workers should be trained with the necessary skills to work in the gaming industry since currently only a third of the workforce in the industry is Maltese.

She also underlined the importance of responsible gaming.
