Malta Industrial Parks CEO Joshua Zammit, whose remuneration package has never been revealed by the government, will resign from the State entity at the end of the year.

Mr Zammit, a former president of the Malta Employers’ Association, was appointed soon after the Labour Party was elected to government in March 2013.

Contacted by the Times of Malta in the wake of reports he was on the way out, Mr Zammit yesterday confirmed he would be stepping down at the end of December.

“MIP is now on a sure footing and heading in the right direction and so I feel my job here is done,” he said.

Asked about his future, he said his next job would not be in the government sector, saying he intended to set up his own firm.

Mr Zammit would not give details about his remuneration, saying he could not divulge such information. For the last two and a half years, the Economy Ministry has refused to answer questions both by the media and in Parliament about the salary and perks enjoyed by the top management at MIP.

Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi last May asked Economy Minister Chris Cardona for details on Mr Zammit’s remuneration package and the reply was that that information was still being compiled.

A second enquiry a few weeks later re-mained unanswered, with Dr Cardona this time telling Dr Azzopardi the reply would be given in another sitting. When the matter was raised again, on July 20, the minister gave the same reply as three weeks earlier.

Government’s repeated refusal prompted the Opposition MP to table a fourth parliamentary question on the matter. In his reply last Tuesday, Dr Cardona reverted to his original reply of May 26, saying the information about Mr Zammit’s financial package was still being compiled.
