Former Prime Minister and Labour leader Dom Mintoff showed some improvement in his overall medical condition yesterday and responded well to medical treatment, a government report said.

Mr Mintoff was re-admitted to Mater Dei Hospital at midnight on Monday suffering from heart failure and dehydration.

This is the second acute admission for the 94-year-old in less than two months. He was admitted on September 16 in a confused state after suffering a light stroke. He was also treated for suspected pneumonia.

He is being treated at the Critical Coronary Care Unit.
