No restrictions are to be imposed on recreational fishing, except in the case of tuna, which, in any case, is not caught from land, the Resources Ministry said this evening.

It was reacting to reports in other sections of the media, that restrictions would be imposed on recreational fishing.

The ministry said in that in the case of tuna, a portion of the quota allocated to Malta would be reserved for recreational fishing, in agreement with the fishermen’s cooperatives. Details would be announced in the coming days.

The ministry said that although there were discussions in the EU on some controls on recreational fishing, this should have no impact on Malta, except for tuna.
