The Infrastructure Ministry said today that it was not confirming any of the costings announced by the opposition yesterday during its press conference on the water and electricity tariffs.

The ministry said the figures were invented by anonymous consultants.

The government in its initial reaction to the MLP press conference yesterday made no reference to the figures.

It said today, however, that it had not needed to refer to the figures at a time when the consultation process with the social partners was still in progress.

“The MLP did not publish its figures in order to help overcome the challenge posed by energy costs, but, rather, to hinder the consultations,” the ministry charged.

The ministry also reiterated that the MLP had not made any proposals on how the current problems could be tackled.
