The IT Ministry said this afternoon said the Labour Party was using its media “to celebrate” a decision taken by a very small IT firm to transfer its operations from Malta, adding that the MLP’s actions were part of its strategy to “hinder and damage” the SmartCity project.

The ministry said it regretted the decision by Atlas Technology Group but said this had no impact on SmartCity. Despite public declarations when Atlas first came to Malta, this company never got in touch with the SmartCity management with a view to start operating from there, the ministry said.

The decision by Atlas did not detract from the strong interest being shown by international operators in SmartCity, interest which had led the developers to allocate more office space than previously planned.

The ministry urged the MLP to apply a sense of proportion and balance in the “hysterical” remarks of the media it controlled.
