Not only did the Labour government not have a roadmap, ministers were now contradicting each other on a decision both were supposed to be involved in and which they had to implement together, the Nationalist Party said.

It said in a statement that while Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia on Tuesday announced that children absent from school, even if for just a day, had to present a doctor’s certificate, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said a certificate was not needed by children who were absent for just a day or two.

The PN noted that the government’s decisions were being taken without consultation and thought, so much so that Dr Farrugia’s decision was criticised by the Malta Union of Teachers and parents.

It said that all this was taking place a week before school started.
