Transport Minister Joe Mizzi appealed to road contractors to stick to their contract conditions, amid complaints by the public that works often remained unfinished.

During a meeting described as "positive" with contractors forming part of the Malta Developers Association, Mr Mizzi however also underlined the delays and inconvenience towards the public.

"We need to send a clear signal that the government is taking note of these things, and we need to give priority to security."

Transport Malta chairman James Piscopo said more attention was being given to traffic management during roadworks.

He also said contractors were collaborating to carry out more works during the night.

The contractors expressed satisfaction at the hefty increase in roadworks in the last three years thanks to the ongoing projects.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that the MDA will have a representative on the traffic management committee.
