Resources Minister George Pullicino has visited the hunting reserve near Mellieha to see conservation work that is regularly and voluntarily carried out by the members of the Federation for Hunting & Conservation, the FKNK said.

The works include the building and upkeep of rubble walls, restoration of field-huts also built from rubble stones, cleaning of the area, pruning of trees and also planting of indigenous trees. This year the works have been carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Affairs and the Mellieha Local Council. Mayor Robert Cutajar and Councilors also visited the area on Sunday. The day was marked as this year's day for nature conservation and 100 indigenous trees were planted.

The Mellieha Hunting Reserve has been managed under the auspices of the Federation for Hunting & Conservation since 1984, while the Hunting Reserve at Miżieb has been managed by the federation since 1986.

The FKNK said it commissioned professional management plans for both areas and presented them to the authorities. The projects include recreational arrangements for picnickers, ramblers, campers, tourists, bicyclers and the general public.
