Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella said today that he was very satisfied with the work of Malta's ambassadors - "except for a few exceptions".

While not mentioning names he called on those who were not pulling their weight to get their act together without him having to act.

He was speaking during the second day of the annual Ambassadors' Meeting held at the Hotel Excelsior over three days. The meeting brings ambassadors together to discuss foreign policy and share experiences.

Dr Vella said he was aware that one could not compare like with like when looking at the results achieved by ambassadors since some countries offered more opportunities than others. However, he said, he wanted to see more effort.
He stressed that overall he was satisfied but there were a few exceptions.
The role of the ambassadors, he sad was to be the "eyes, the ears and the mouthpiece of Malta" and to work to promote investment.

Speaking about political direction, he said Malta had an excellent relationship with various countries including EU states, the US, Russia and China.

The situation in Libya was fluid. Malta would keep offering support especially when it came to border control and setting up of institutions and he hoped to continue working with the new government on migration.
