Having just returned from Hamburg my attention was drawn to reports in The Times (April 5 and 6).

Foreign Minister Joe Borg was indeed on an official visit to Hamburg and he delivered a lecture to an exclusive audience at the Anglo-German Club in Hamburg. The invitation had come through the efforts of the late Otto K. Techau, then Hon. Consul General for Malta in Hamburg.

However, it would be proper to note that Dr Borg was also the guest of the Senate of Hamburg after receiving an invitation that was also initiated through the efforts of Mr Techau.

Dr Borg addressed a large and selective audience at a forum co-organised by the Catholic Academy in Hamburg, by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and by the management of the Hotel Inter-Continental in Hamburg, where he gave a frank explanation of his government`s efforts with respect to accession to the European Union. This turned out to be a remedial measure after a German Christian Democratic member of the European Parliament had offered quite distorted facts on Malta to the audience present.
