The Minister of Tourism, Edward Zammit Lewis, who is also responsible for civil aviation, has requested technical reports after MIA closed the runway for some time during the power blackout on Tuesday night.

A number of flights were diverted to Catania after MIA reported problems with its generators.

The ministry said Dr Zammit Lewis had discussed the issue with  Malta Air Traffic Services (MATS), Malta International Airport and the regulator of civil aviation.
