Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono has praised the Red Cross (Gozo branch) and augured that the current dispute between the branch and the Malta Red Cross would be resolved.

The Malta Red Cross on Friday suspended the operations of the Gozo branch, without giving reasons.

Mrs Debono, who was speaking during an activity for voluntary organisations, praised the service of the Red Cross in Malta and Gozo.

She said she appreciated the intensive work done by the branch in Gozo since its setting up.

Mrs Debono was launching a three-day event by the Gozo Association of Non-Governmental Organisations at the Victoria sports complex during which the association is promoting the services of the NGOs.

The NGOs are involved in activities which include folklore, music, sports and philanthropy.

Mrs Debono praised and thanked people involved in voluntary work, saying they were giving sterling service to society.

Some 150 NGOs are registered with the association in Gozo, Mrs Debono observed.

She said a meeting would be called for them shortly to involve they in the eco-Gozo plan.
