Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt has had a meeting with the Auditor-General over the contract awarded for the extension of the Delimara power station.

The ministry said the meeting was held at the minister's request following allegations of interference by the ministry and the minister himself in the granting of the contract.

Earlier, Dr Gatt had written to the Auditor-General and strongly denied the allegations.

"While I categorically deny any interference whatsoever in the tender process, I earnestly hope that you ensure that your investigation enters into the merits of these unfounded claims and verifies whether or nor there is even a shred of evidence to sustain them," the minister said.
