Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella this evening avoided giving a direct reply when asked whether the government was considering Air Malta privatisation.

He was asked by Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo whether he could declare and confirm that the government did not intend, now or in the future, to privatise or partly-privatise Air Malta.

Mr Vella said the government would await the results of the restructuring exercise being piloted by the people nominated by the former government. The government was not interfering in this exercise.

Strategic decisions would be taken when the real state of the company was known on the basis of the process launched by the former government.
