Student nurses and midwives should receive the minimum wage instead of a stipend to increase the incentive for students to join such professions, according to the nurses’ union.

Publishing its proposals for the forthcoming Budget, the MUMN said grants should be given to families to take care of their relatives.

Such a measure, the union said, would cost the government less than having to pay to accommodate the elderly in institutions.

The MUMN also encouraged the government to speed up the building of another car park at Mater Dei Hospital to alleviate the parking problem for employees.
