Millions of cigarettes, tens of thousands of sports shoes and footballs and an entire 20 -foot container full of spare car parts were among the 12 illegal shipments seized by Customs officials over the past weeks.
Officials have had a busy few weeks, with multiple shipments from the Far East being found to be illegal. Among the finds were:
1. 14,000 footballs with 3 different trademarks
2. 11,200 items of children's clothing
3. 30,660 pieces of lingerie
4. 9,792 bottles of shampoo
5. 9,030,000 cigarettes (903 master cases)
6. 23,552 tracksuit bottoms of various popular football clubs
7. An entire 20ft container with 58 boxes of auto spare parts
8. Thousands of wrist watches of various famous trademarks
9. 42,000 sports shoes of various popular trademarks
All of these items were en route to North Africa, except for the container of car spare parts which was destined to Albania.
Officials also seized 100 game controllers, designer clothes, bags and belts and football club jerseys and tracksuits destined for the local market, Customs said in a statement this morning.
