A military transport plane crashed in eastern Algeria today, killing 103 people, the private Ennahar TV station said, citing "informed sources".

The plane crashed in a mountainous area in the Oum El Bouaghi province, about 500 km (300 miles) from the capital Algiers, the report added.

The plane was carrying relatives of military personnel, it said.

The authorities have yet to release a statement on the crash, and no official death toll was immediately available.
