Re-enactments of military life in Mtarfa will be presented in a day-long event on Sunday May 17 which will take the hilltop town back to its roots.
The activity is being organised by Mtarfa Local Council, with the collaboration of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Dialogue.
Maltese and tourists alike will have the opportunity to learn and appreciate how the barracks development came into being, get to know more on the various uses of existing buildings whilst also appreciating the way planning was carried out at the end of nineteenth century.
There will be static displays of old military vehicles, re-enactments, battle simulations, live firing with world war II guns in a unique British shooting range, exhibitions and informations stands on WWII weapons, parades, tours on the train by Melita Trains, hospital wards display, an exhibition of old photographs and documents and tours on the clock tower.
The clock tower was built in 1895 and has been restored to full working order.
The public will also be able to take the opportunity to spend the rest of the day in one of the picnic areas and enjoy the beauty of the area. There will also be entertainment including falcon shows and plein air painting.
Dar il-Kaptan and Dar tal-Providenza will also take part.
The events start at 10 a.m.
Those wishing to participate in the plein air painting or would like to set up an exhibition are also invited to contact the Local Council.
