Catania v Milan

Mark van Bommel has expressed his delight at joining Milan ahead of his new team's clash with Catania tomorrow.

The Holland international made his debut with the Rossoneri in the 2-1 Coppa Italia victory at Sampdoria in midweek following his switch from Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old midfielder asked to be released from his contract at Bayern after being sidelined by coach Louis van Gaal.

Van Bommel's contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

"My situation at Bayern had changed lately," said Van Bommel, who has signed a six month contract with Milan. "But I just want to look ahead and do well in Italy.

"I am delighted to be here.

"Milan is a fantastic club and I couldn't give up the chance to join them.

"I want to help Milan win.

"As for my position, I will play wherever the coach wants me to."

Massimiliano Allegri's Milan are four points clear at the top of Serie A after last weekend's 2-0 victory over Cesena.

Van Bommel is expected to start on Saturday alongside recent signing Urby Emanuelson with the Rossoneri still without the services of Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo, all sidelined through injury.

Despite Milan not being at full strength, Catania coach Diego Simeone knows his side will face a stern test against the Serie A leaders.

Simeone has urged his team to rid its game from the errors which spoiled his debut in last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Parma.

"We made too many sloppy mistakes and I can't allow that," said Simeone, who replaced sacked Marco Giampaolo last week.

"We must correct that.

"There was also a drop in concentration and you cannot afford to do that in this competition.

"We will have to play a perfect game against Milan if we are to get a result."

Catania have won just once in their last eight games and lie three points clear of the drop zone.
