A total of 760 migrants have poured into Lampedusa overnight, arriving on four boats in quick succession. They left from Libya.

A fifth boat has been located 22 miles off the island and is expected to arrive later this morning.

The boats were intercepted by the Italian coast guard.

The fourth boat, which arrived at about 6.30 p.m., carried 264 people.
