Madasa Traore, 27 from Mali, was today condemned to a six-month jail term suspended for two years when he admitted to trying to leave Malta using another man's passport yesterday.

He managed to get hold of a boarding pass to fly to Catania but was apprehended before he made it onto the Air Malta plane.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke in handing down sentence noted that he cooperated with police.
