Michael Mifsud is hopeful of securing a move to a foreign club sooner rather than later.

Speculation about the Malta striker’s future has resurfaced in recent weeks amid increasing scepticism about his prospects of pursuing his career abroad but Mifsud has revealed that he is considering offers from three overseas clubs.

“In the past few weeks, I have had enquiries from clubs in three different countries and talks are on-going,” Mifsud told The Times.

“The signs are encouraging and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that something can be sorted out in the coming days.”

Having missed all but the final three months of last season after failing to agree personal terms with a number of suitors, Mifsud is adamant that a similar scenario will be avoided this time round.

There have been suggestions that Mifsud, who has just returned from a one-week training camp with the national squad in Castel di Sangro, Italy, may opt to see out the rest of his career in Malta after his positive three-month spell with Valletta FC last season.

Premier League club Floriana have also been linked with Mifsud but he insisted that there is no truth in such rumours.

“My no.1 priority is to join a club abroad this summer,” Mifsud said.

“As I said, I’m very positive about that happening but you can never be sure. If I decide to stay in Malta, I’d talk to Valletta first because I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with them.

“I’ve heard that there have been reports that I’m in discussions with Floriana but this is not true.”
