Michelle Muscat, the Prime Minister’s wife, announced today she would be undertaking another swimming challenge in aid of The Marigold Foundation.

This will be Mrs Muscat' longest challenge so far and her third in aid of the foundation. She will attempt to swim from the Ta Fra Ben area in St Paul’s Bay to Marsamxett Harbour.

In 2015 she swam from Gozo to Malta and last year crossed from the south to port.

Proceeds from the 'north to port' swim will benefit non-governmental organisations which support different causes.

These include the Special Olympics team, who are preparing for their participation in the Abu Dhabi World Games.

Anna Calleja, Special Olympics national director and personal swimming coach to Mrs Muscat, said Mrs Muscat has been training on a daily basis for the past year, including during the election period.

She said that Mrs Muscat had already swum the 10-kilometre challenge twice as part of her training.

Marigold Foundation executive secretary Jennifer Xuereb said the foundation would be holding its annual fundraising white party at Fort St Elmo on July 22, the same day on which the challenge swim is planned, weather permitting. The swim should take about six hours.

Mrs Muscat said the swim, despite its underlying currents and jagged coastline, showcased Malta's beautiful seas. She appealed to the public to preserve the sea and keep it clean.
