Birkirkara Mayor Michael Fenech Adami is projected to double the 1,122 first count votes he won in the Birkirkara local council election three years ago, but it is still far from clear whether the PN will actually continue to hold on to the biggest locality in Malta.

Party agents at the Naxxar counting hall said the PN was currently about 1% ahead of Labour, with some 200 votes. Much would depend on the transfer of votes of AD candidate Mario Mallia, who won some 400 votes and is not expected to be elected.

There were 17,317 registered voters in Birkirkara
