Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon has written to the Speaker, asking him to investigate newspaper reports and comments by politicians yesterday about the Auditor's report about him, which is due to be tabled in the coming days.

Dr Falzon said he was in particular referring to a report in Times of Malta on Saturday, where it was said that the report would be tabled on Wednesday.

The Auditor General is investigating the part-expropriation of property belonging to Mark Gaffarena and the nature of the compensation given to Mr Gaffarena.

It appeared, Dr Falzon said in his letter to the Speaker, that it was not only the date of the tabling of the report which had been leaked, but also the conclusions of the report.

This, he said, undermined the dignity of the House and the work of the National Audit Office.

He asked the Speaker to investigate before the report is actually tabled.

The Speaker said he had only just received Dr Falzon's letter. He had not received the report and only knew that the Auditor General would call.

He handed the letter to the Clerk of the House for further investigation.
