For the first time this year, Malta International Airport reported double-digit growth in passenger numbers. October saw an increase of 10.2 per cent, compared to the same month in 2014.

The airport also saw its four millionth passenger last month, a considerable shift if you consider that passenger figures last year only hit this milestone on November 21, a full month later.

Effective collaboration and connectivity

In total, 464,557 passengers passed through the airport, a result of the higher number of seats available.

MIA chief executive Alan Borg said: “To lend context to the high October traffic results we are seeing, we only need to remember that as little as three years ago these numbers were considered good for August, our peak month. This demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration within our sector to smooth out the seasonal peaks and troughs through effective destination marketing and enhanced connectivity.”

The top two destinations remained the UK and Italy, which grew by 9.6 per cent and 10.1 per cent, respectively. Cargo increased by 3.6 per cent – an additional 52 tonnes.
