Malta International Airport will remain “a key strategic investment” for Vienna Airport, the Austrian company said yesterday as it announced the reappointment of two top officials.

Vienna Airport, the single largest shareholder in MIA, yesterday reappointed former MIA CEO Julian Jaeger and Guenther Ofner to its management board for another five years.

The appointments come after critical remarks in the Austrian press a couple of months ago when the vacancies for the two posts were advertised more than a year before the contracts of the incumbents expired.

The Vienna Airport supervisory board unanimously reappointed Mr Jaeger and Mr Ofner for the period September 2016 to September 2021.

A statement said management under the two men had shown an impressive track record as debt was almost halved, productivity improved by a quarter and the share price tripled.

The same announcement included Mr Jaeger’s comments on MIA: “We are very proud to have Malta International Airport plc as part of our portfolio and continue to view it as a key strategic investment.”
