A group of Mġarr youths, together with two leaders from Mġarr Youth Committee, recently participated in a Youth in Action exchange in Zakopane, Poland.

The group of 11 youths aged 15 to 17 met other young people from Italy, Portugal and Poland for the EU co-financed project entitled ‘Sport and healthy lifestyles in enlarged Europe’.

During this week, they participated in various activities and workshops related to healthy living. The purpose of the workshops was to promote healthy living, and included a walk in the streets of Zakopane dressed as fruits while handing out leaflets and fresh fruit.

They also took part in a walk in the Chocholowska Valley, a trip to the mountain Gubalówka, and a visit to thermal pools. They also prepared healthy menus and salads, participated in sports and games, and had the opportunity to make Mandala – a traditional Polish craft.

Each country organised a traditional cultural event.

The Maltese youths started off this event with Powerpoint presentations about Malta and Mġarr.

They danced to the tune of Il-Maltija and played two traditional games, ‘iż-żunżana iddur iddur’ and ‘il-borża’. Maltese traditional delicacies, such as galletti, sundried tomatoes, honey rings, ‘ħelwa tat-tork’, Twistees, bigilla and ġbejniet, were also served.
