Stocksbtc is neither registered in Malta nor licensed or otherwise authorised by the the Malta Financial Services Authority to provide any type of financial services, the authority said in a warning on Thursday.
It said the company, which has an internet presence at https://stocksbtc.com/, and which appeared to be offering investment and/or other financial services to consumers, claimed that it was regulated by the MFSA under registration number 2017/871.
"This assertion is false," the MFSA said.
It said Stocksbtc indicated that it operated from the Dragonara Business Centre in Dragonara Road, St Julian’s but it did not seem it was a tenant at that address.
A list of entities authorised by the MFSA is available from the MFSA and can be viewed on the official website of the MFSA at http://www.mfsa.com.mt/pages/licenceholders.aspx.
