The Malta Financial Services Authority has warned about Facebook posts contain offers of loans to the Maltese public of between €1,000 and €500,000 at an annual interest rate of three per cent.

It said these posts are being posted by unknown persons under the Facebook profile names ‘Marina Zidane’ and ‘Exaucer Doremos’ on a number of Facebook Groups related to local events.

The MFSA said the people behind these posts were not licenced by the MFSA to provide any type of financial service including loan facilities.

It also warned that the posts could potentially be fraudulent in nature and aimed at defrauding unsuspecting persons.

Accordingly, the MFSA warned against contacting, entering into any transactions or otherwise dealing with these persons.

It said the public should not obtain any financial services, including loan facilities, from any person or firm before ascertaining they held a licence or wereotherwise authorised to provide such services by the MFSA or another reputable financial services regulator.
