Updated - A police inspector has apologized to a company director after his name was put on the charge sheet over an incident which took place two years ago, even though the director only joined the board two weeks ago.

The police yesterday filed charges against the directors of the MFCC, accusing them of involuntarily causing one worker grievous bodily harm and causing another three workers slight injuries when a lighting structure collapsed  during preparations for the rock opera Ġensna.

Among the listed directors was Winston J Zahra, who in an angry reaction on Facebook said he had been summoned for this case even though he only became a director of this company in the past couple of weeks.

He had nothing to do with this company in any capacity when the incident happened in 2014, he insisted.

"Obviously it is much easier for the inspector concerned to just look at the current list of directors as opposed to doing some basic work and researching who the directors were at the time of the accident," he said, adding that this was ridiculously unprofessional and a total disregard to people's reputations.

But in a new Facebook post this morning, Mr Zahra said the prosecuting inspector had apologised for the mistake.

"I received a call from the inspector involved who was very apologetic for the mistake made. The matter is being rectified accordingly. Everyone can make a mistake and the inspector was very quick to respond and graceful in his approach which I appreciated," he said.

He said it appeared that it would be the directors who were serving at the time of the incident who would be arraigned.

Back in November 2014, Emanuel Ronayne, the worker who was critically injured, had filed a judicial protest objecting to the fact that the Occupational Health and Safety Authority did not investigate the matter.

The authority had filed a counter-protest denying the claims.

Mr Ronayne had undergone surgery and his spleen was removed. He continued to suffer physically and psychologically from the trauma.
