The Malta Football Association is looking into a claim on the Facebook account of  Hibernians striker Taylon that he was offered money to miss Saturday's title-deciding match against Valletta.

The Brazilian striker allegedly penned the claim, saying he was offered the money by an unnamed individual.

Taylon was included in Hibs' starting formation on Saturday and put them ahead after 13 minutes.

He made it clear in his post that his goal celebration was not aimed at the Valletta supporters but at the individual who sent somebody to his house to persuade him to skip the match.

"The reference to the chicken, it was for an individual, who sent someone in my house one day before the game to offer me lots of money not to play the final, I would never sell myself, I love football and I love to score," the post said.

The Brazilian striker later saw his penalty kick saved by Valletta goalkeeper Henry Bonello as the Citizens won the match 4-2 on penalties.

The Malta FA issued a statement saying it was looking into the matter.

"Reference is made to the message allegedly posted on social media by Hibernians FC player Taylon Nicolas Marcolino today," the statement said, pointing out that the matter is being probed by the Integrity Officer and Prosecutor of the Malta Football Association.

The police have also been informed, the MFA said.

Taylon's Facebook account was deleted a few minutes after the post was uploaded.

Times of Malta contacted top officials from Hibernians FC, who were still unaware of the post but said they would be looking further into the matter before making any statements.

Hibernians and Valletta are due to meet again on Wednesday, when the two rivals clash in the FA Trophy quarter-final at the National Stadium.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Hibernians FC said that they had nothing to do with the case and asked the Malta FA and the police to investigate.
