The Malta Football Association is holding an inquiry and has suspended two players who this morning pleaded guilty to accepting bribes of €2,000.

Goal keeper Andrea Gatt, 29 and Lawrence Mizzi, 28, who play for Cospicua’s St Georges Football Club were given suspended jail terms and fined €500 each after admitting they accepted bribes for their team to lose a match played against Vittoriosa last Saturday.

Mr Gatt was jailed for one year suspended for four years and Mr Mizzi for 18 months suspended for four years.

The MFA said that the necessary steps would be taken against the men pending the outcome of the inquiry.
