The Malta Football Association has temporarily suspended three players of Hamrun Spartans and two former committee officials of the same club for alleged attempted match fixing.

In a statement this evening, the association said that its Executive had decided to issue charges against players Gianluca Calabretta, Roderick Fenech and Massimo Grima for alleged involvement in attempted match fixing by trying to bribe other players in the 2012-13 season.

The same charges will be issued against Hamrun committee members Elton Borg and Julian Friggieri. In view of their membership of the committee, charges will also be issued against Hamrun Spartans.

All five were temporarily suspended from all football activities.

Hamrun were this year relegated from the Premier to the first division.
