The MIA Met Office said this afternoon that it expects more strong wind in the coming hours, though not as strong as last night.

It said that weather conditions throughout the night were characterised by the strong winds hitting over the Maltese Islands for the first early hours of this  morning reaching a maximum of gale force 8. This was followed by rain and thunderstorms.

The total average amount of rainfall registered till noon today was 35 mm, with heavy rainfall registered in Gozo.

The current situation is showing a depression covering the central Mediterranean. This will affect the Maltese Islands causing the southeast to east wind to be strong especially within exposed areas. Later on, the winds are expected to change to easterly becoming strong to gale force 6 gradually becoming strong to rather strong.

A preliminary advisory notice has been published by the Malta Airport MetOffice, indicating the possibility of a gregale winds within the next hours to mariners and for aviation purpose a low visibility warning.

The outlook for tomorrow is expected to be cloudy with rain showers which may be locally thundery with a rather strong to strong Northeast wind.
