Labour MEP Joseph Cuschieri has added his name to a question in the European Parliament urging the European Commission to ensure that the transfer of Syrian chemical weapons does not take place in the Mediterranean.

The transfer of the weapons from a Danish ship to a specialised American processing vessel is due to take place off the port of Gioia Tauro, south of Italy.

However the MEPs are insisting that the chemical weapons should not be transferred and processed in a closed sea such as the Mediterranean.
