The Malta Environment and Planning Authority eventually formulate a policy for the development of solar farms, under the Environment and Development Planning Act.

In a statement this morning it said it was requested to formulate this policy by the Government.

Prior to the formulation of this policy, the authority will establish a policy framework to define a solar farm, provide guidance for the location of new solar farms with a priority, but not exclusively, for large scale roof tops, for land already committed to industrial development and for quarries; and to identify potential impacts to be addressed.

Individuals and organisations are being invited to send their submissions on this objective. These are to be sent in writing to: Director of Planning, Solar Farm Policy MEPA , St Francis Ravelin, Floriana, e-mail: solarfarmpolicy@mepa.org.mt .

Submissions are to be sent by October 14.
