Mepa’s environment chief, Martin Seychell, will be saying goodbye to his unenviable position at the environment and planning authority to join Commissioner John Dalli as deputy-director general at the Commission’s Directorate for Health known as DG Sanco.

Mr Seychell’s appointment was announced by the Commission today. He will become the first Maltese to occupy the second highest post in the Commission’s hierarchy which comes with a remuneration package of 170,000 euros net a year.

Mr Seychell was lately in the news over the Dwejra controversy following the permit given by the authority to allow foreign film producers to lay sand on a Natura 2000 site.
