Adds Mepa chairman's remarks - The Mepa Board this morning turned down an application to convert a former rabbit farm in Maghtab into a small industrial zone.

The decision was taken ‘in the public interest' particularly the interests of neighbours.

The application for the permit had followed up two previously approved outline applications within the same site to demolish a group of agricultural buildings and convert the land for industrial/storage premises.

The proposed layout consisted of 42 industrial units for storage, small scale manufacturing and repair services and car parking.

The site is within a Rural Conservation Area in an area predominantly made up of agricultural land and farm buildings.

Mepa Chairman Mr Austin Walker said: ‘While we respect the decisions taken by previous Boards, the Board takes decisions based on today’s planning policies and on the principle of sustainable development while making sure that permits are granted in the public interest.’
