A plan to provide guidance to stakeholders managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Weee) has been developed by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa).

The plan highlights Malta's commitments under European legislation, in particular the achievement of re-use, recycling and recovery targets. It identifies the roles and responsibilities of the various economic operators, and outlines the infrastructure and financial measures deemed necessary to manage Weee generated locally.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage its reuse, recycling and recovery.

Public consultation on the draft Weee plan is being carried out jointly by the Office of the Prime Minister and Mepa.

Feedback is to be sent to the authority by October 31 to Waste, Air, Radiation and Noise Unit, Environment Protection Directorate, Mepa, St Francis Ravelin, Floriana, e-mail - contact.unitD@mepa.org.mt
