Nationalist MP Robert Cutajar this evening hit out at Mepa for having given in to pressure and changed a policy so as to allow building of up to seven storeys at Ta' Masrija on the Mellieha bypass.
He said the change of policy, if allowed to proceed, would see up to 300 apartments being built in this site, with a negative environmental and social impact.
He said pressure to allow such building first started in 2006 but had always being resisted by the former government and the former local council, until now.
That matters had now changed was 'curious' he said, adding that the government should heed the people's concerns and stop such development.
