Mepa inspectors moved in this morning to demolish an illegal bunker-like series of rooms built illegally in the rural area known as ta' l-Izball in the limits of Rabat.

The rooms, used by trappers, were surrounded by a rubble wall. An enforcement notice was issued in September but the owner was not immediately known.

Owner Joseph Agius said this morning that Mepa was taking action against him because he was a trapper.

The demolition work is being carried out by a contractor under the watchful eye of the police.

The workers are also demolishing an illegal boundary wall and a bird trapping area.

The work was taken in hand after enforcement notices were ignored.
