The net pending caseload at the Malta Environment and Planning Authority last month was 5,010.

Mepa said in a statement that in August, it decided 318 applications and received 369 new ones. The authority processed 103 notifications of development, which did not require a formal application.

It also issued 59 stop and enforcement notices - 50 in Malta and nine in Gozo.

The enforcement section closed 52 cases - 48 in Malta and four in Gozo.

Another 36 enforcement cases were sanctioned by a planning permit and 15 were resolved by the owners’ decision to remove the illegal development.

Mepa issued 78 waste carrier permits and carried out five environmental inspections on permitted facilities.
