The Malta Environment and Planning Authority has approved the development of a telecommunications hub at id-Dwejra, limits of Rabat.

The proposal was for a 30-metre communications tower at one end of the site and the use of an existing room at the other end, with three transmitting rooms, a small toilet and a generator room.

Although most of the board members seemed to be against the development, they felt that since an outline permit had already been given, their hands were tied. The development was approved with seven votes for and three against.

The board refused two applications for mobile telephony towers on the site.
