The planning authority this afternoon unanimously approved the redevelopment of the site of the former Belle View restaurant in Mellieha.

The site is to be redeveloped to include 18 apartments and a supermarket. The apartments will be built on top of the supermarket.

The former bakery was the first, and main, stop for many to buy tasty treats for several years. The building has not been used for almost a decade.

The authority also postponed a decision on Villa Bonici in Sliema for both the authority and the developer to clarify their legal position on the application.

Architect Ray Miftoff explained that the plans submitted in the application had been superceded by a number of updated plans and that his client had been in discussions with the local planning unit for a development brief on the project.
