The Mepa Board this morning approved changes to plans for the building of an interpretation centre at Dwejra, in Gozo overlooking the 'inland sea'.

Today's decision means that work on a concrete structure which was stopped in 2008 may continue, but the top part will be removed within three months, and replaced by a wooden frame so as to have a lesser visual impact.

The building will host the interpretation centre and a restaurant. The Planning Directorate had recommended approval of the project. Labour MP Roderick Galdes voted against, saying he was against building outside development zones.
