The Mepa board has approved a permit for the development of a passenger terminal and a marshalling yard at Cirkewwa ferry harbour.

The application, which was amended from a previous application, features a smaller terminal and a bigger marshalling yard. There is more space for the parking of private vehicles.

The current buildings will be demolished, to be replaced by a terminal that will separate passengers from those boarding the ferries in their cars. The police station will be rebuilt.

The permit includes provision for the installation of a wind turbine and photovoltaic units.

Tenders for construction works will be issued next month..
