Mepa insisted today that no further illegal development is taking place in a disused quarry at San Dimitri Point, Gozo.

The authority was reacting to claims by the NGO Ambjent Malti.

"In mid-September, the construction of a new wall was noted and the Authority ordered the operator to stop all works and he complied.  Since then, the Enforcement Officers have been on site on at least five separate occasions following reports by Ambjent Malti of further ongoing works, and on none of these occasions were any construction works found further to what had existed in mid-September, contrary to the reports being circulated," Mepa said.

It said it had asked the Police to prosecute the owner in view of the development that had mainly taken place some years ago.  MEPA has also informed the Veterinary Authorities following allegations by Ambjent Malti of unregistered livestock, and also since the buildings housing the livestock are not covered by permit.
